Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday assured a delegation of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Arajnaitik) that the state government would increase the price of sugarcane and ensure that all outstanding payments to farmers are made before the start of the new sugarcane crushing season, reported Live Hindustan.

The delegation met Adityanath at his official residence in Lucknow to discuss the union’s 11-point demands, which included a call for an increase in the state advisory price of sugarcane to at least ₹450 per quintal, payment of outstanding sugarcane dues within 14 days, and the construction of a new sugar mill in Fatehpur.

As per media report he said that the state government would take steps to address the union’s demands. He said that the sugarcane price would be increased before the start of the new crushing season and that all outstanding payments would be made within the stipulated period.

The organization had forwarded a memorandum to the Chief Minister through the district administration, outlining 11 key demands which state that the government has not increased the sugarcane prices in the state last year, despite a significant rise in production costs. Therefore, for the sugarcane crushing season 2023-24, the minimum advisory price for sugarcane should be set at Rs 450 per quintal, immediate settlement of outstanding sugarcane payments across the state, and interest on delayed payments if they are not settled within 14 days, as stated in the election manifesto. They also demanded the setting up of private or government sugar mills in Fatehpur and expanding the capacity or renovating the sugar mills in Najibabad, Bijnor, and Moradabad.
