As sugar mills approach the end of their operations, market sentiment towards sugar prices tends to become bullish. However, jaggery prices are experiencing a persistent decline due to ongoing production, reported local media.

In early April, the price of sugar surged to K4,600 per viss from K3,970 per viss on 17 February 2024 in Yangon’s market.

On the other hand, jaggery prices ranged from K3, 600 to K5, 500 per viss on 6 April, depending on producing areas, varieties, and quality. This marked a decrease from K3, 700 to K5, 800 per viss on 27 March. Dynamic pricing by sugar mills may be influencing the market value.
