Alcohol from Molasses as a Possible Fuel and the Economics of Distillery Effluent Treatment

Kujala, P., Hull, R., et.al.  1976.  The economics of power alcohol manufacture vary considerably according to the local cost of gasoline and the marketability of molasses. Depending upon the strain of yeast, the nutrients present and the temperature at which fermentation is carried out, a 30 hour fermentation time is usual to achieve a reasonable alcohol yield. Stillages can vary in BOD5 levels, depending upon the substrate, fermentation efficiency and processing method.
